We’re doing something totally crazy this round. I made a vlog/podcast/video piece with the help of my friend, and first WHAT’S UP guest - WILL. We have a blunt chat about creativity and how we’re doing. I mashed in some footage from the home of two people I don’t know. There isn’t a WHAT’S UP guest this round because the video covers some WHAT’S UP ground. Will and I reference Claire McFadden’s most recent substack at the end of our chat. Here it is. Read it. It rocks.
WHAT HITS
Got completely destroyed by, “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers. She wrote it when she was 23. This fact has been getting to me. It’s desolate and severely wise. I mean look at this.
He reached the edge of the town and turned off on a highway. Cars passed him by. His shoulders were too wide and his arms too long. He was so strong and ugly that no one wanted to take him in. But maybe a truck would stop before long. The late afternoon sun was out again. Heat made the steam rise from the wet pavement. Jake walked steadily. As soon as the town was behind a new surge of energy came to him. But was this flight or was it onslaught? Anyway, he was going. All was to begin another time. The road ahead lay north and slightly to the west. But he would not go too far away. he would not leave the South. That was one clear thing. There was hope in him, and soon perhaps the outline of his journey would take form.

But was this flight or was it onslaught? Anyway, he was going. See you there (April 21st).
This was such a relatable and compelling conversation. Esp. picking up all the cheeses to price check (I did this today with shiitake mushrooms) and also "I thought my life was going to be this whole other thing." I'm honored to have wiggled into the conversation sideways!
i am traveling solo and it was nice to hang out with you two :) miss you and share so many of the same sentiments!
